Google has launched a set of AI-powered coding tools that compete with GitHub Copilot. The tools, based on Google’s PaLM 2 large language model, include a chat tool for coding questions and AI-assisted coding in Google’s no-code AppSheet product. Developers can access the tools through an extension for Visual Studio Code, JetBrains IDEs, the Google Shell Editor, and in Google’s cloud-hosted Workstations service. The tools are currently available only to a small set of trusted testers.
