The Japanese government has announced it will provide subsidies of up to $1.8 billion for projects related to storage batteries and chips. The move is part of Japan’s efforts to increase supply chain security. Among the proposals set to be subsidised is a plan by Honda Motor and GS Yuasa to invest about $3.85 billion to boost storage battery production, with the government providing up to $1.5 billion in subsidies for the project. The companies plan to start production in April 2027 and will begin mass production in October 2027.
